It seems that every service on the internet that has a little something to do with social interaction now gets its own Stories feature. Not long ago, the Xbox app was an example of this trend, allowing you to share your gaming moments with others in your gaming circle. Now, Microsoft has announced that OneDrive will also have its own stories.

Stories on OneDrive are called “photo stories”. Basically, this feature allows you to share your photos and videos with friends and family, and they too can interact with the content you share with reactions and comments.

But it’s worth noting that photo stories are currently invitation-only, and you must share access by adding someone’s Microsoft account. You also have the option to set up a public access and then remove it if you want. Another setting lets you send people an access link but decide whether to approve it after they open the link.

You can customize a photo story and, predictably, you’re allowed to change your Microsoft account name and photo, as well as change your cover photo and story’s description. After you share a story, it becomes visible to your followers in the “Shared” tab on their OneDrive. If you want, you can remove access for contacts and even delete photo stories with special options.

OneDrive photo stories do not take up additional storage in your account, as you can only share photos stored in OneDrive. However, if you delete a photo used in a shared story, a copy will remain in the story and will continue to take up space in your account.

Photo stories are currently supported on OneDrive Basic 5GB (Free), OneDrive Standalone 100GB, Microsoft 365 Personal, and Microsoft 365 Family accounts. Work and school accounts are currently not supported. While the feature is currently available as a public preview in Australia, it is expected to roll out to other countries later this year, but no specific timeframe has been given.
