Steam, the bastion of PC gaming, shared the September 2023 data of the Hardware and Software Survey published every month. The list based on Steam users shows us the latest state of competition in the operating system, graphics card and processor markets. Let’s take a look at the results of the survey together.

GTX 1650 lost its throne

When we look at the September graphics card rankings of the Steam Hardware Survey, there is a significant change. You may remember that the nearly five-year dominance of the GTX 1060 was taken over by the GTX 1650 in November. Now, the most used card by players on Steam is RTX 3060 (up 1.4 percent). The share of GTX 1650 decreased to 4.78 percent.

In the new generation graphics cards, the best performer of the RTX 40 series was the RTX 4060 (with an increase of 0.31 percent), while the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX fell by 0.02 percent and ranked 73rd.

Windows 10 is on the rise again

In the operating system section of the survey, Windows 11’s months-long rise is now over. Windows 10 increased by almost 2 percent in September, increasing its share to 58 percent. On the other hand, Windows 10 had 37.4 percent of the cake, with a decrease of 1.79 percent.

Another change occurred in the CPU chart in September. As you know, AMD has spent most of this year closing the (still large) gap between itself and Intel. In September, while the red team’s share decreased by 2.24 percent, Intel’s share increased to 68.77 percent in total. Additionally, as a result of the upcoming Intel Raptor Lake Refresh processors, we may see the gap widen further.
