According to the statement made by Epic, the number of Epic Games users is running a record. While most of the accounts on the platform are used to buy and play computer games, some accounts are preferred on consoles and mobile devices such as Fortnite and Rocket League.

There are currently over 500 million Epic Games accounts, and the bulk of Epic Games’ user base comes from Fortnite. For example, those who play Fortnite on console do not need to create a full Epic account. Fortnite can be played with an “anonymous” Epic Games account without a username or email address. Fortnite had over 350 million registered players as of May 2020, with such unaccounted players making up a significant portion of the 500 million figure.

The number of Epic Games users exceeded 500 million

The Epic Games Store reached more than 194 million users in 2021, an increase of 34 million compared to the previous year. The company stated that it had 62 million monthly active users in December, the number of daily active users reached 31.1 million and the highest number of concurrent users reached 13.2 million.

Epic has also invested heavily in its free video games program, which will continue at least for the rest of this year. Last year, the company gave 89 games free to 765 million accounts.

But offering Grand Theft Auto V for free brought in 7 million new Epic Games Store users in a single day. Campaigns for games such as Civilization VI, World War Z and Subnautica led to significant increases in the number of new users. Rocket League’s transition to a free-to-play model also had an impact on user numbers.

Gamers spent approximately $840 million, a 20 percent increase compared to last year. Just over a third of that was spent on third-party games, while the biggest third-party titles in the store were Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Hitman 3, Far Cry 6, Genshin Impact, Darkest Dungeon, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Chivalry 2, and GTA V.
