The war between Russia and Ukraine, which has been going on for more than a year, also allowed us to see interesting weapon technologies. The clearest example of this; Loading drones with bombs and using them as suicide bombers, whose production purpose is very different. However, this is not the case. Ukraine has now started to use the game console called Steam Deck, which Valve released a while ago, as a weapon. So how?
Saber is one of the weapons Ukraine uses against Russia. Known as a portable weapon, Saber was originally produced for UAVs. But combat conditions made this weapon work everywhere. This weapon, which originally had a remote control, can be commanded remotely. This is where Steam Deck comes into play. The weapon, modernized by the Ukrainian army, is now controlled by the Steam Deck.
No need for external display with Steam Deck
Saber required an external display for viewing in the past. However, recent modernization efforts have eliminated the need for this screen. The Ukrainian military can now watch the footage from Saber with Steam Deck. Of course, the firing of the gun is also done with this game console. According to the statement, the Steam Deck can be used within 500 meters of space without any problems.
The modernization work for Saber is not a professional work. A crowdfunding program was even created to integrate the gun with the Steam Deck. But it seems worth it. Because Ukraine has started to actively use the Steam Deck Saber against the invading Russian soldiers.
