Final Fantasy (FF) game, which was made by Square Enix (then called Square) in 1987 with not very high hopes, was seen as an ordinary game series until the 4th game of the series, although it was liked in Japan. However, after the 4th game became popular in Europe and the USA, the FF series suddenly became a worldwide phenomenon.
Final Fantasy 16, announced at the PS5 event in 2020, created a great excitement just like the other games in the series. Instead of the producer of the game, which is certain to be released this year, a statement that angered PC players came.
Square Enix says the game will come to PC, while its maker says it won’t
Although it has been stated in all the trailers shared about FF 16 that the game will be exclusive to PlayStation, there is the phrase “Also available on PC” under this article. In addition, the officials of Square Enix, the producer and distributor company of the game, have repeatedly announced that the game will debut on PlayStation consoles, but a few months later, the game will also be available for sale on PC. Even in an FF-themed DualSense controller advertisement published by PlayStation in Japan, it was clearly stated that the game would only be exclusive to PS5 for the first 6 months.
The producer of the game, Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P), who performed at the Final Fantasy 14 New Year Tournament held in Japan the other day, asked the presenter when the new game will come to PC, “No one said that the game will be released on PC. Why do you think the game will come to PC in 6 months? Go get PlayStation 5,” he confused the players.
Of course, it is not surprising that Sony and Square Enix, both of which are based in Japan, “watch each other”. Moreover, many games that are popular in Japan are only exclusive to PS5. The biggest reason behind this is that the vast majority of Japanese players buy Sony’s products, which belong to their own country, instead of buying Xbox or PC. However, when it comes to games such as Final Fantasy that have made a worldwide impact and are expected by millions of players, a company like Square Enix is expected to release the game to PC to make players happy.
Although Yoshida’s statement made FF lovers very angry, there was no statement from Square Enix and Sony, the producer of the game.
