We learned that the E3 fair, the world’s largest gaming event for years, was canceled 2 days ago. The reason was that companies withdrew from the event one by one. After Xbox, Nintendo, Sony and Ubisoft announced that they will not attend E3 this year; Sega, Tencent, and Devolver also announced their withdrawal from the event.

After browsing here to remember what happened, let’s take a look at the statement made by E3 organizer GamesIndustry.biz on the subject.

“Gaming industry didn’t want this E3 to happen”

Christopher Dring, who is at the top of GamesIndustry.biz, which organized E3 2023, said in a statement that the game industry does not officially want this E3 to take place. According to his own statement, many big game companies were very enthusiastic about the event.

“Companies were talking about buying huge spaces. The E3 team was exploring how we could expand the parking lot and use extra spaces that haven’t been used for years. The event was in full swing. But with E3 2023 just a few months away, the mood changed as the contracts weren’t signed yet.”

According to Dring, some of the reasons companies such as Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo gave for the withdrawal include:

  • “Our games are not ready”
  • “We don’t have a code”
  • “We cannot be seen as wasteful in this economy”
  • “The timing is not quite right”

Although E3 2023 won’t take place, and we’re very sorry about that, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any more gaming events this year. Xbox, Ubisoft and EA will introduce their new games at their own events after June.
