Speaking to Ahmet Ergen from NTV, Minister of Trade Mehmet Muş made striking statements regarding the agenda. Speaking about both food and vehicle prices, Minister Muş’s emphasis on the free market did not go unnoticed. The minister’s statements reveal that there will be no direct intervention in prices.

Stating that the world is going through an extraordinary period, Minister Muş said that the price increases were not specific to Turkey, and that there was an increase in all commodity prices. Stating that this situation will of course not be watched, Muş said that the struggle should be given in order to balance the prices.

“Inspections are not a few days’ work”

The following statements were included in the statements made by the Minister Muş:

After the pandemic, commodity prices rose in the world. We receive complaints from citizens, we conduct inspections. The Inspection Board is looking at it, we are continuing the inspections. We evaluate the data we obtain within the board. Input costs are inevitably reflected in prices. We conduct a comprehensive audit of food purchases. Audits are not events that result in 1-2 days. We have the whole system under review. There are points that we evaluate about other areas. The chairman of the inspection board is looking at the chain markets. We’re looking at the increases here. We look at how much the company has come. The Competition Board has various audits. We are doing their work. Are we looking at unexplained increases in the supply-demand balance? Our work continues. We are continuing our inspections from several branches. However, the free market economy is valid, we do not interfere with prices. The world is going through an extraordinary time. There is serious inflation in the world. Struggle is needed to stabilize prices.

There are serious allegations about vehicle sales, we will investigate, if there is an unlawful situation, we will change our legislation if necessary. Citizens complain about not being able to find a car after the SCT reduction. They say, “They gave the cars to the galleries. The dealers agreed with the galleries.” These are claims. We are tasked with investigating this. If this vehicle is kept in stock, if it is really given to the dealer, if the vehicles are not given to the citizens and we detect this, the sanctions are very heavy. Every work contributes to a certain extent. We cannot allow monopolization or a mechanism that will go to the dominant point. There is no question of directly interfering with prices. . .
