The productive artificial intelligence revolution, led by names such as ChatGPT, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion, created a great panic in the technology world. The fact that artificial intelligence is developed only under the ethical concerns of the developers has raised the concern that these systems can cause great harm as well as benefit.

In this context, a ‘stop development’ letter for artificial intelligence developers was published, and OpenAI even stopped developing GPT-5, which would create the new version of ChatGPT, in accordance with this letter. Today, a statement came from Google CEO Sundar Pichai about these concerns.

“We don’t have all the answers yet, technology is advancing rapidly”

Pichai, the new guest of Bloomberg’s 60 Minutes interview series, shared that the rapid development of artificial intelligence is keeping him up at night. Pichai explained the reason for this with these words:

“The urgency to study and apply artificial intelligence in a useful way can be very damaging when misused at the wrong time. We don’t have all the answers yet, and technology is advancing rapidly. Doesn’t that keep me up at night? It definitely doesn’t sleep.”

He also commented on the rapid development of ChatGPT:

Pichai stated that OpenAI’s experiences during the development of ChatGPT were also a lesson for him. He explained the most basic lesson of ChatGPT with these words:

“One of the points they make is that you don’t want to come up with technology like this when it’s very, very powerful because it doesn’t give society time to adapt. I think this is a reasonable point of view. I think there are responsible people out there trying to figure out how to approach this technology, and so are we.”

He also touched on the issue of deepfake:

With the development of artificial intelligence tools, even voice cloning has come as close as a button. The ease of use of this technology has also changed the content on the internet. For example, videos of Joe Biden, Donald Trump, and Barrack Obama playing Minecraft started to go viral.

Pichai also made the following statement about the deepfake issue:

“Creating deepfake videos that harm society must have consequences. Anyone who has worked with AI for some time is aware that it is something very different and very profound, and we will need social adjustments to think about how to adapt.”

Summary Sundar Pichai also reiterated the concerns in the letter published recently.
