Automotive industry stakeholders have been discussing a regulation published in the Official Gazette for the last few weeks. Yes, we are talking about that regulation that imposes obligations regarding electric cars to be imported from some countries such as China and Japan. In a news article we shared with you the other day, we also mentioned the claims that this decision would be taken to court.

Today, there was a new development on the subject. Automotive Authorized Dealers Association (OYDER) made a press release in which it expressed its views on the subject. In the statement using very harsh expressions, it was stated that authorized dealers were penalized with the decision in question. According to OYDER, the “Communiqué on the Import of Some Electric Vehicles (Import: 2023/22)” published on November 29 will lead to the bankruptcy of some automotive dealers.

Highlights from OYDER’s statement:

In OYDER’s press release, it is stated that objectionable situations have been created with this decision. Among these disadvantageous situations; There are issues such as the fact that the permits that have already been obtained will be canceled, brands will not be able to make sales during this period, authorized service establishment costs and the call center obligation. OYDER actually says that the notification that came into force is problematic in itself.

OYDER has some solution suggestions:

OYDER offered some suggestions to comply with the communiqué prepared by the Ministry of Commerce. Among these suggestions is the recommendation that the current regulations for the service network should be left untouched and that the adaptation process transformation, which was determined as 1 month, should be revised to 1 year. It is not known how the Ministry of Commerce will respond to this, but the rules regarding the import of electric cars seem to remain on the country’s agenda.
