Claims that search and rescue teams did not reach Hatay especially after the earthquakes experienced today were circulating on social media. Hatayspor Deputy Chairman Mustafa Özat had recently stated that everyone in Hatay was on the street and that the help needed went to other places.
While similar claims about the lack of assistance continued to come, a statement came from Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) President Yunus Sezer. Sözer answered a question about the inaccessible areas in his statement.
According to AFAD President, there is no inaccessible area
Regarding the earthquake zones, Sezer said, “We do not have an inaccessible area, but we are constantly adding search and rescue units. There are those who have arrived, and our reinforcements continue to arrive, both by land and by air,” he said.
In addition to this, the AFAD President stated that offers of assistance were received from more than 40 countries. Emphasizing the importance of the first 72 hours, Sezer added that search and rescue activities are still of great importance and that citizens should help teams work more comfortably.
On the other hand, information on social media platforms that adequate help is not reaching Hatay continues to come. Hatay Mayor Lütfü Savaş also stated that they need search and rescue teams quickly in a speech he gave to Habertürk. Stating that around 1200 buildings were demolished in the city, Savaş stated that the weather was very cold, and that support such as shelter and food and drink should be increased for the citizens outside.
