Starfield officially launched Tuesday evening, following a five-day early access period for people who pre-ordered the pricier Premium and Constellation editions. And now Microsoft is taking notice of the number of players playing developer Bethesda Game Studios’ sci-fi RPG.
“Starfield surpassed 1 million concurrent players across all platforms today,” Xbox head Phil Spencer said in an X post late Wednesday night.

While numbers haven’t been released for Xbox players, Xbox Cloud Gaming players, or PC players on the Microsoft Store, it’s possible to see concurrent players for the PC version of Starfield on Valve’s Steam service.
Valve’s Steam player statistics currently show Starfield as the fifth highest game in terms of concurrent players (at the time of writing). The game hit a personal peak of 269,177 concurrent players on Wednesday. However, these numbers still lag behind another single-player RPG, Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3. The game currently sits in third place with Wednesday’s best player count peak of 373,504.
We’ll likely see a higher Steam concurrent player count this weekend as more players get the chance to make time for Starfield. The game is currently still the number one best-selling game on Steam, which means many people have decided to purchase Starfield rather than pre-ordering it in advance.
