According to SteamDB, Bethesda’s new sci-fi RPG Starfield reached an all-time peak with 330,723 concurrent players on September 10, less than two weeks after its early access launch, surpassing even The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
Skyrim reached 287,411 concurrent players on Steam 12 years ago and is still played by a large number of players. While Starfield has managed to surpass one of Bethesda’s most popular games of all time, it has yet to surpass Fallout 4, which had the company’s highest concurrent player count on Steam with 472,962 at the time of its release in 2015.
Considering that Starfield is also available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass, it seems possible that the total number of concurrent players across all currently available platforms is much higher than we know. According to Bethesda’s statement on September 7, it is known that the game has reached more than six million players.
Game director Todd Howard also confirmed that official mod support will be coming to Starfield next year. He also commented on upcoming post-launch DLC, but remained mum on details for now.
