The pandemic period has led to an increase in digitalization in all areas of our lives. Employees who could not go to the office came together with online meetings, but it is difficult to achieve synergy in the virtual environment. Holographic teleportation by researchers at the University of Western Ontario could solve these problems.
How was holographic teleportation done?
Holographic teleportation is actually called holoport. The holoport, which is an abbreviation for hologram and teleport, allows a person’s hologram to be instantly teleported to another place, as in the Star Trek universe.
Of course, this technology is not yet as practical as in the movie. Several companies need to come together for the Holoport transaction to take place. The mixed reality glasses HoloLens, owned by Microsoft, make the hologram appear as a result of holographic teleportation. Holograms are prepared with special cameras and software of Aexa Aerospace. Thanks to this setup, the holograms of the research participants were transferred simultaneously and in two directions from Alabama to London.

Technology could revolutionize the medical world
Researchers at Wester are currently working closely with Canada-based company Leap Biosystems. The goal is to figure out how to use this technology in medical applications. Because thanks to technology, two people wearing HoloLens can interact as if they were physically in the same room. Therefore, with this technology, medical examinations in rural areas can be made much easier in the future.
With the technology, image and sound transmission can be transmitted for now. But doctors rely on various parameters such as blood pressure, heart rhythm and blood pressure for a complete examination. On the other hand, physical contact is also a big part of the medical examination and holograms cannot replicate it.
