Netflix doesn’t seem to be content with just a second season after the success of Squid Game. According to Variety, the streaming giant is in the making of a reality game show called Squid Game: The Challenge, based on the Korean drama. The 10-episode production will pit 456 people against each other in both “inspired” games from the series and new events. Fortunately, no one dies in these competitions, and there is still a big $4.56 million reason for the contestants to hold out until the end.

The company began interviews and selections with English-speaking participants from around the world prior to filming in the UK. While it hasn’t been announced when Squid Game: The Challenge will premiere, the casting page in the US states that candidates may be required to stay in the competition for up to four weeks in early 2023. The Circle’s production company Studio Lambert and ITV’s The Garden are leading the project.

We can say that a reality TV spin-off isn’t entirely surprising. Squid Game remains the most popular Netflix show of all time and has won Golden Globe and SAG awards. And the company, which reported its first loss of subscribers in a decade after limited growth potential and problems with account sharing last quarter, is determined to reverse that situation.

This competition may attract many new subscribers to Netflix, not just those who want to watch the second season of Squid Game…
