READING NOW Speed limit is coming to all cars!

Most automobile accidents are caused by speeding. Although there are speed limit signs in almost every region, unfortunately this rule is not followed. However, this seems to be changing now. Every new car sold in the European Union will soon feature overspeed prevention technology known as intelligent speed assist (ISA).

European union pioneers speed limit systems

The EU regulation that comes into force states that all new car models introduced on the European market must include an ISA system. This regulation does not cover the models of the brands that are currently on sale. But from July 2024, a built-in overspeed prevention system will be mandatory on every new car sold in the EU.

ISA systems use camera and GPS data to determine the speed limit in cars. The system, which can detect speed limit data with these devices, can thus determine the speed at which vehicles should go. The scope of ISA may change in the direction determined by the drivers.

Accordingly, these systems can warn the driver audibly about the speed limit. In addition, it can determine the speed of the vehicle by working with ISA cruise control. In addition, according to the permission given, it can reduce the power to the engine at high speeds, allowing the car to return to the speed limit limits.

In its press release on the subject, the European Commission states the following:

The introduction of ISA is a big step forward for road safety and has the potential to significantly reduce road traffic injuries and fatalities. Automakers can now maximize their potential ISA systems to create safer roads for everyone.

Many drivers in Europe already drive ISA equipped vehicles. It is stated that with the ISA systems becoming mandatory, accidents can result in 26 to 50 percent fewer deaths. We cannot say that ISA systems work 100 percent efficiently. In some cases, systems can set the speed limit much lower or higher. However, it will become much more consistent when these systems are made compulsory.

In the future, these speed limit systems may start to be used in other markets as well. So what do you think about smart speed assist systems? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
