It has been announced that Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, will be used on aircraft as Starlink Aviation next year. It will now be possible to play online games or perform other high-speed internet activities on airplanes.

It is stated that Starlink Aviation service can offer internet speeds up to 350 Mbps to any aircraft equipped with Aero Terminal. Therefore, sufficient internet speed will be provided for activities such as video conferences, online games or consuming high-quality video content. Considering the Wi-Fi service currently available on airplanes, we see a serious leap forward.

What the Starlink Aviation service can do is not limited to these. According to SpaceX, internet connectivity will be available in a taxi, take-off, over land or ocean, and during landing with a 20ms ping. On the other hand, global coverage is also promised as Starlink satellites move in low earth orbit. Thus, Starlink has risen to a more advantageous position than other similar services.

The date given for SpaceX’s Starlink Aviation service is mid-2023. However, agreements have already been made with airline companies. A few months ago, on a test flight between Burbank and San Jose, California, JSX announced that it was able to access 100 Mbps internet speed on its plane with Starlink satellites. JSX will also be one of the first airlines to access Starlink Aviation. However, Hawaiian Airlines has an agreement with SpaceX. Considering the traditional cost of providing internet service on airplanes, we can say that airline companies’ demands for Starlink Aviation may be high.
