The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday granted a key authorization to Elon Musk’s SpaceX, authorizing the company’s Starlink internet network to move forward on its way to launch up to 7,500 next-generation satellites. This approval is crucial for SpaceX to expand and expand its global satellite internet service.

Permission granted for Starlink V2

SpaceX had sought FCC approval for the Gen2 Starlink constellation, known as the “second generation” and consisting of 29,988 satellites. SpaceX reported that Starlink satellites made this application in order to provide stable and fast internet service in regions with no or limited internet access. In its approval order, the FCC only allowed SpaceX to launch up to 7,500 satellites. This given limit was introduced to address concerns about orbital debris and space safety. But the expansion of the scope of this decision depends on the success and impact of the Starlink satellites.

The number of Starlinks in orbit will exceed 10,000

On the other hand, SpaceX carried out 49 Starlink satellite missions this year and placed 53 satellites into orbit in each mission. A total of 53 launch missions are planned before the end of the year. There are currently more than 3,500 Starlink satellites in low Earth orbit. Therefore, thanks to this approval, SpaceX will have placed approximately 12,000 satellites in orbit. Users who want to buy new Starlink internet need to purchase a $599 terminal and a $110 monthly subscription.
