Space transportation company SpaceX came up with the toilet problem in a mission in September. The incident occurred in the Inspiration4 mission, which took place last month. Space tourists faced a toilet leak on their three-day journey. The reason was that the tubes in the toilet were not sticking. Therefore, the urine spread to the area under the base of the capsule.
SpaceX’s Crew-3 mission will begin on Sunday. Crew-3 is Spacex’s fifth crewed flight into orbit and its fourth crewed flight to the spaceport. However, the most curious issue for the task was whether the toilet was repaired.
SpaceX says it fixed the toilet problem
The malfunction of the toilet on SpaceX’s Inspiration4 ship brought new questions to mind. Because on October 31, the company has its fourth crewed mission to the International Space Station. However, in this mission, the design of the toilet in the capsule is the same. That said, the company says it’s nothing to worry about.
Will SpaceX come up with a new toilet issue this Sunday? The company’s answer to this question, which was on the agenda before the Crew-3 launch, was “No”. The space transportation company announced that it solved the problem by welding the pipes.
William Gerstenmaier, a former NASA employee and now vice president of SpaceX, gave a statement to the New York Times. Gerstenmaier said that bodily fluids were collected under the base of the Crew Dragon capsule, called ‘Resilience’. Meanwhile, the toilet system is the same as the design of the Resilience capsule, although the company will use a different capsule called ‘Endurance’ in the Crew-3 mission.
William Gerstenmaier, “We really didn’t even realize it until the crew got back. When we got our car back, we looked under the floor and saw contamination under the floor of the Inspiration4. ” said.
Meanwhile, an alarm has emerged as the Inspiration4 crew, which includes Jared Isaacman, Sian Proctor, Haley Arceneaux, and Christopher Sembroski, were in orbit, according to CNN’s report. However, it was not determined what the problem was until the crew returned.
The Crew-3 mission will include NASA’s Raja Chari (mission commander), Tom Mashburn, Kayla Barron, and Matthias Maurer from the European Space Agency. Saying that the toilet problem has been resolved, SpaceX officials state that they are ready for the new mission. However, we expect NASA to sign the new design on Friday.
