Something remarkable happened in South Korea. An actively used YouTube channel belonging to the South Korean government fell into the hands of hackers for a few hours. Hackers, who changed the name of the channel to “SpaceX Invest”, published a crypto money interview with Elon Musk. It was not understood why hackers did such a thing.

According to a report in Yonhap, one of South Korea’s well-established news sources, the attack took place on Saturday, September 3, at around 03:30 local time. Hackers, who obtained the login information of the account, first changed the name of the channel and then published the interview that Elon Musk gave to Bloomberg employee John Micklethwait as part of the Qatar Economic Forum events.

What was Elon Musk saying in that interview?

Elon Musk’s statements in June 2022 were on the agenda like a bomb at that time. Explaining that Tesla and SpaceX companies have crypto money investments, Elon Musk continued to praise Dogecoin (DOGE), which he has been talking about for years.

The stolen channel was again in the hands of the government after 4 hours

According to the news of Yonhap, the South Korean government learned that the YouTube channel was stolen exactly 3 hours later. Acting on this, the authorities regained control of the account at around 07:20. The hackers’ motives and identities could not be determined.

The incident is not the first!

According to JoongAng Ilbo, also a South Korean news source, this attack is not the first time. According to a news service, other YouTube channels established by the South Korean government were also hacked. So much so that there were three accounts hacked in the last two weeks. In the statements made by Google, the attacks in question were confirmed. The company simply said it would investigate what happened. The South Korean government, on the other hand, remains silent about the attacks.
