Auction house Sotheby’s has hired an NFT specialist to join its digital art team.
Brian Beccafico announced his new post at Sotheby’s via a meme. The auction house has confirmed the hiring.
Sotheby’s Increases Its Influence In The NFT Industry
Sotheby’s has significantly increased its involvement in the NFT industry after digital artist Pak sold its first NFT for around $17 million in April 2021. The auction house launched its own NFT platform, called Sotheby’s Metaverse, in October.
The auction house offers many different NFTs through multiple selling platforms. The art house has teams of experts in London, New York, Paris and Hong Kong.
Sotheby’s NFT sales event is held three times a year. Auction house Bored Ape Yacht Club has sold one of its NFTs for $3.4 million, and a CryptoPunk NFT for $11.7 million.
Coming from a family known for collecting art, Beccafico has purchased NFTs from leading digital artists such as Beeple, Pak, Fewacious and XCOPY. Beccafico will now work for Sotheby’s auction house.
