Xperia 5 IV, the new model of the Xperia 5 series, which is a slightly more affordable and compact alternative to Sony’s flagship phone, was introduced. As we expected, it is a compact phone, but the price tag is well above expectations.

The design has not changed
The Xperia 5 IV is physically roughly the same size as the Xperia 5 III; 1mm shorter and narrower but 4gr heavier. We’re looking at a 6.1-inch OLED display with 1080 x 2520 pixel resolution, supporting 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Sony claims that the screen brightness has been increased by 50%. It was specifically stated that the phone has IP68 / IP65 certificates. Sony claims that brands only test their phones for IP68.
High capacity battery, wireless charging
Sony has also managed to increase the battery capacity without changing the size of the phone. The phone is powered by a 5000 mAh battery and takes 30 minutes to charge 50%. Sony stated that this result can be obtained with a 30w PD charger. The company also claims that the phone will protect battery health for up to 3 years. The phone also has wireless charging feature. For the first time in the Xperia 5 series, we see wireless charging in this model. However, neither the charger nor the USB cable comes out of the phone’s box, you have to buy it separately.
Improvement on the camera
In the Sony Xperia 5 IV, we see a 12MP triple camera setup, including 16mm 1/2.5” ultra-wide, 24mm 1/1.7” wide and 60mm 1/3.5” telephoto. Periscope camera can now do 2.5x. All three lenses feature autofocus, while the wide and telephoto lenses have optical stabilization. Thanks to the addition of artificial intelligence and distance analysis, the real-time Eye AF and real-time tracking that Sony uses in cameras are available on the Xperia 5 IV’s cameras. The front-facing camera is a 12MP sensor using a fixed-focus 24mm f/2.0 lens.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, the Xperia 5 IV comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of storage. Sony Xperia 5 IV, one of the rare phones that retains a 3.5mm headphone jack, has full-stage stereo speakers as well as audio technologies such as Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio, DSEE Ultimate and 360 Reality Audio.
