Sony has started testing a new PlayStation 5 software update that will delight users with the features it brings. The new update will be available for trial by certain beta users in selected countries, namely the USA, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany and France.

The new PS5 update comes with many innovations, from Dolby Atmos support to storage improvements. It also includes various interface improvements.

Dolby Atmos and 8TB M.2 SSD support

One of the most notable parts of the update is Dolby Atmos support, which will improve the gaming experience. According to Sony’s statement, the company’s Tempest 3D AudioTech 3D audio feature will be compatible with Dolby Atmos devices such as speakers and televisions. Also, platforms like Netflix will be able to update PS5 apps for Dolby Atmos audio support.

PlayStation 5 currently supported expandable M.2 SSD storage up to 4TB. However, the new update will increase the maximum value to 8TB. Note that users will need an M.2 SSD that meets the minimum requirements. You can reach Sony’s requirements for M.2 SSD addition by clicking here.

Innovations on the interface side

As we said at the beginning, the update also comes with some interface changes that will improve the PS5 experience. For example, it will be possible to mute the “beep” sound when the console is turned on or off. Also, the haptic feedback feature can be activated via the controller while navigating the PS5. When the feature is enabled, system sound effects in certain places will be physically reflected to the user.

In the same account, it becomes possible to assign a second controller as an auxiliary controller. Thus, the two remotes can be used as if they were one. We can say that this feature can be very useful in helping your friends to pass a difficult part of the game, navigating the console.

Apart from this, features such as searching for games in the library, innovations in sociality, reacting to messages with emojis will also come. The update, which is opened for users in certain countries, will be released for everyone in the coming months.
