Sony is preparing to launch its motion sensor wearable metaverse device called Mocopi.

The Mocopi sensors will cost around $358 and will allow users to move across the metaverse in real time.

The technology giant introduced its metaverse product with a wearable motion tracking system called Mocopi.

The new system consists of six color sensors placed at various points of the body (one on each ankle, wrist, head and hip) to capture and connect people’s movements in real time. This is reminiscent of products previously used to power characters in films of the Avatar series.

According to Sony’s press release, the product uses technology that allows users to create videos of their avatars using whole body movements. A promotional video released by the company showing what the technology can do shows a user attaching sensors to their body and dancing like an anime-style avatar.

“Videos that normally use motion capture technology require specialized equipment and operators.
Using our algorithm, Mocopi creates highly accurate motion measurement with a small number of sensors, freeing VTubers (virtual broadcasters) and creators involved in film and animation production from the constraints of time and space.”

Pre-orders are scheduled to begin in mid-December. The price of the product will be 49,500 yen (about US$358).
