As the leader of the sensor industry in terms of revenue and capacity, Sony will intensify the competition with new models this year. Claims of at least two new sensors from the Sony IMX800 series have been leaked.
What will the Sony IMX866 offer?
A flagship sensor with 1/1.1 dimensions, which was predicted to be called Sony IMX800, was on the agenda. This sensor has a resolution of 50MP and will appear on ambitious phones by the end of the year.

On the other hand, a new sensor with the name Sony IMX866 came up. This sensor has a resolution of 50MP and is a successor to the Sony IMX766 sensor. Adopting RGBW array, the sensor offers better low-light performance and photo quality.
An interesting piece of information about the sensor is that it keeps the 1/1.49 inch size in 16:11 videos, but acts like a 1/1.56 standard sensor in 4:3 photos. It is noted that this feature will be standard in the IMX800 series. It is also stated that the IMX900 series will be released before the end of the year.
