Sony announced the Accolades feature with the PlayStation 5. The Commendations system, which can basically be described as digital rewards earned during multiplayer games, did not last long. The company plans to remove the commendations feature later this year.
Sony is removing the Praises system that came with the PlayStation 5
Sony has decided to remove the Praise feature, which is much less used than expected, this year. The PlayStation 5 community rewards feature allowed players to praise other players for helpful and generous actions. However, Sony does not seem to get the expected interaction with the Compliments feature.
PlayStation’s support page states the following regarding the removal of the Praises feature:
In the fall of 2022, the Praises feature will no longer be supported on PlayStation 5. The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we expected, so we’re shifting the focus of our work. We encourage the community to continue to send positive messages to each other.
The compliments feature was originally introduced to make players appreciate each other. After completing an online match, players could choose a player to be rewarded with one of four rewards. These options are listed as follows: Helpful, Sincere, Sportsman and Leader.
The idea was to capture positive communication between the multiplayer communities. The infrastructure of the system is also quite solid. Players can only send compliments to non-friends players. It is also not possible to send a second commendation to the same player within 12 hours.
While Sony is removing this praise system, it also heralds a new reward system to the players. The company has announced its new PS Stars loyalty program that rewards PS4 and PS5 players. Players will collect points by playing certain games or winning certain trophies through the PS Stars system. These points can then be redeemed for digital collections and on the PS Store. The new system is expected to be used all over the world this year.
It seems that Sony is more concerned with the number of times the game is played. So what do you think about Sony’s removal of the Praise system? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
