Sony and KIRKBI invested $1 billion each for Epic Games’ metaverse plans.

With the investments coming to Epic Games, the valuation of the company reached 31.5 billion dollars.

Epic Games, the producer of the world-famous battle royale game Fortnite, announced that it received a funding of 2 billion dollars, thus reaching a valuation of 31.5 billion dollars. Sony and KIRKBI, owner of the LEGO brand, invested 1 billion dollars each. Sony had previously invested $450 million in July 2020 and April 2021.

Epic Games announced today that it is raising funds “to advance the company’s vision of creating the metaverse and support its continued growth.” The announcement did not share details on how the funds will be spent.

Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said:

“We are excited to invest in Epic to deepen our relationship in the metaverse, a space where creators and users share their time”

KIRKBI CEO Søren Thorup Sørensen said they are pleased to support Epic Games for their “future metaverse plans”.

Epic CEO and founder Tim Sweeney stated that the funds raised will be used to build the metaverse, describing it as a space where “players can have fun with friends, brands can create creative and immersive experiences, and creators can build a community and thrive.” .
