As it is known, Nokia has many patents on telecommunication technologies such as 5G and 4G. In this context, agreements made by technology giants can bring brands against each other. Now, one of the leading names in the smartphone market, Vivo, Nokia may suspend German sales as a result of an ongoing patent dispute. The Mannheim District Court ruled in Nokia’s favor in the case that was concluded today.

Vivo has stopped sales in Germany

Reportedly, the lawsuit between the two companies, which has been going on for a while and has been concluded as of today, is about Nokia’s 4G standard-essential patent (SEP). If we recall, Nokia had previously sued Oppo and OnePlus for the same patents. Therefore, both brands suspended their sales in Germany. At this point, we can see that Vivo is also leaving the German market.

In a statement, Vivo said, “We have discussed mutual license renewal with Nokia, but we have not reached an agreement so far. We believe that Nokia has not yet fulfilled its obligation to grant licenses on “FRAND” (fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory) terms. In addition, the giant manufacturer, which confirmed that it will stop the sale and marketing of affected devices, is preparing to appeal the court decision.

Reportedly, users will be able to continue to purchase vivo products through official channels and third-party vendors in Germany. In addition, Vivo assured that its long-term commitment to the German market remains unchanged and that its customers can rely on its services in the future.
