The number of beauty centers in Turkey has exceeded 100 thousand. Although dozens of procedures were performed on the body and face in such places, the most popular ones were laser and photo epilation. Dermatologists and plastic surgeons filed a lawsuit against beauty centers, emphasizing that this procedure, which can be done in every certified beauty center, should be done by experts.
This lawsuit, filed in 2017, came to an end and the Tenth Chamber of the Council of State decided that the aforementioned devices should be made by dermatologists and plastic surgeons. After this decision, beauty centers will only be able to “wax” instead of laser epilation.
“It is necessary to prevent possible health violations”
In the lawsuit filed in 2017, the Turkish Dermatology Association and the Turkish Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Association filed a lawsuit against the use of photo epilation and similar devices in the beauty center with the following complaints; “Photo epilation device is a medical device. Persons who are not experts cannot use this device. We did not open this case for the members of the association to use the aforementioned devices. Public health is important. It is necessary to prevent possible health violations. Previous regulations were also cancelled.”
After the majority vote was obtained in the Tenth Chamber of the Council of State, a strict inspection began in beauty centers. Ayşe Aydın, Chamber of Craftsmen of Istanbul Beauty Specialists and Beauty Salon Businesses, used the following statements after the decision; “We will be able to do it on a single network. In that case, thousands of businesses are in danger of being shut down.”
