A tool posted on GitHub claimed that the latest Nvidia RTX graphics cards are capable of unlocking all Ethereum mining capabilities. But now, it has actually been revealed that it contains malware. The software called Nvidia RTX LHR v2 Unlocker, which claims to have removed Nvidia’s “Lite Hash Rate” software implemented in newer graphics cards, to deter crypto miners from purchasing gaming GPUs, has fooled many users in this way.
In a YouTube livestream on the Red Panda Mining channel, members of the mining community ChumpchangeXD and Y3TI shared the findings: This tool contains multiple viruses! More importantly, the tool also doesn’t do anything like removing the hash rate cap for your GPU. Instead it infects the system and shows symptoms like high CPU usage, checking system drivers and causing some red flags to appear.
Ever since Nvidia implemented Lite Hash Rate on graphics cards from mid-2021, there has been a huge demand for previous RTX cards with no hash rate caps and better crypto mining. Removing the limit on newer cards is a tempting proposition, but it doesn’t seem possible at the moment. Malware is also found under the programs that claim to do it.
