In the last few years, smartphones have been more and more involved in our lives. Especially for young people, mobile phones are an integral part. Social media, in particular, has a huge impact on the lives of young people. Many effects, such as young girls trying to change their body image, TikTok causing various tic distortions, cause parents to worry. A large study in the UK found two specific teenage years when some teens are most sensitive to social media.

The review includes two surveys of 84 thousand people

Various scientific debates lie behind all these concerns. The main topic of this discussion depends on whether social platforms do too much damage. Many researchers say that digital technology is an important factor in increasing mental health problems. Others, however, failed to establish a direct relationship between digital media and happiness for many young people.

Behavioral psychologist Jeff Hancock at Stanford College, who analyzed 226 such studies, says, “There are quite a few of these studies, and almost all of them show very small results.” said.

But with the new review, Hancock pointed out that there is one point worth noting. The review includes two surveys covering a total of 84,000 people in the UK. This survey is a survey of more than 17,000 adolescents aged 10 to 21, showing their social media consumption and life satisfaction over time.

The review showed a decline in life satisfaction rankings after one year of heavy social media use during early adolescence. While this sensitive period is between the ages of 11-13 in women, it is between the ages of 14-15 in boys. Dr. Orben said this relationship divide stems from the fact that women tend to enter puberty earlier than men.

In the study, researchers found that 19-year-olds reach a second range of social media responsiveness. Many people around that age are in social turmoil, such as working at a new job and moving to university. The review shows that these turmoils are changing social media sentiment.
