Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 comes with an interesting chip design

Although Qualcomm introduced its latest flagship processor just last month, the first details of next year’s flagship processor have come. The report shared by Digital Chat Station reveals the details of the SM8550 processor codenamed Kailua. According to the information, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be produced in TSMC’s 4nm fabrication process and will host the Adreno 740 graphics unit.

The chip has a very interesting design on the CPU side. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will house one Cortex-X3, 2 Cortex-A720, two Cortex-A710 and three Cortex-A510 cores. According to Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm continues to use older generation Cortex-A710 cores because it wants the processor to have 32-bit support. Cortex-X3 and Cortex-A720 are not yet introduced cores. This move of Qualcomm sounds very interesting, with many companies including Google gradually cutting off 32-bit support, but it seems that the company is not yet ready to end 32-bit support.
