When we look at the past, we see that Qualcomm’s flagship chipsets have the upper hand over MediaTek. However, the Taiwanese company caught up with its rival with last year’s Dimensity 9300. The company’s newest processor, Dimensity 9400, uses ARM-designed cores and is an 8-core processor with 1 Cortex-X925 at 3.63 GHz, 3 Cortex-X4 at 3.3 GHz and 4 Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4 GHz. On the graphics side, it uses ARM’s Immortalis-G925 GPU.
On the other hand, Snapdragon 8 Elite uses Qualcomm’s own designed Orion cores. 2 of them are Oryon V2 Phoenix L cores that can reach a frequency of 4.20 GHz, and 6 of them are Oryon V2 Phoenix M cores that can reach a frequency of 3.53 GHz. On the graphics side, there is Adreno 830. Neither processor contains efficiency cores.
Snapdragon 8 Elite is ahead in CPU, Dimensity 9400 is ahead in GPU
As expected, the Snapdragon 8 Elite shows better CPU performance in both single-core and multi-core workloads. In the Geekbench 6 test, Snapdragon 8 Elite outperforms its rival by 10% in the multi-core test and 15% in the single-core test. In the AnTuTu 10 test, where mixed tests are performed, Dimensity 9400 scores 6% higher than Snapdragon 8 Elite.
It should be noted that the tests were carried out before the phones were released. Therefore, there may be some change in the numbers for the products released, but the results will be more or less like this. Either way, this year’s Android flagships look set to take a big leap forward in terms of raw performance, matching or even surpassing iPhones.
