As the global smartphone market stagnates, two sources in Apple’s iPhone supply chain told Reuters that the company’s newest phones are still selling very well months after launch.
Sales doubled compared to last year
A source said that Apple’s July 2022 shipments for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro lineup have tripled compared to July 2021. This is unusual given that iPhone sales slowed during the summer before new models were introduced around September.
Analysts also point to unusual demand trends in 2022. In April, Samik Chatterjee of JP Morgan told investors that the iPhone 13 was selling better than previous generations. He stated that this trend could lead the company to have a structurally higher market share for 2022.
iPhone 14 sales will get even better
Apple expects the iPhone 14 to sell even better. Reuters reported that while Apple is conducting trial production of its next-generation smartphone, it has recently conveyed higher-than-normal expectations to suppliers. Some analysts seem to agree with Apple on this point. Well-connected TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote in June that he expects the iPhone 14 to see higher demand than the iPhone 13 in China, a critical market for Apple.
Pro series will be distinguished by its design and features
The iPhone 14 Pro is expected to come with distinctive features from other models in the series. Improvements in the camera point will of course be on all models, but the always-on display, new design with hole notch and maybe more hardware features will be exclusive to Pro models.
