Inflation around the world has had a negative impact on sales of technological gadgets, as it has on everything else. Undoubtedly, smartphones come first. Recent reports also confirm the decline in smartphone sales.
Smartphone sales fell for three consecutive quarters
According to analytics firm Counterpoint Research, smartphone shipments in the US in the second quarter of 2023 fell 24 percent compared to the same period last year. With the latest report, it was revealed that phone shipments in the USA fell for the third quarter in a row.
Experts state that despite the falling inflation figures recently, consumers are hesitant to renew their smartphones due to market uncertainty. Most experts predict shipping numbers to continue to decline in the next quarter.
We can say that Android companies were most affected by the decrease in demand. Compared to the same period last year, TCL-Alcatel shipments have decreased by 37 percent. On the other hand, while Samsung’s shipments fell 37 percent, Motorola experienced a 17 percent decrease.
Apple seems to be least affected by the negative weather. Apple shipments fell just 6 percent compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, the 48 percent rise experienced by Google seems a bit misleading as the brand only has a 2 percent share in the US.
Apple, which was least affected by the smartphone shipment, managed to increase its market share to 55 percent. The company had a 45 percent market in the second quarter of 2022. Samsung’s market share fell from 28 percent to 23 percent.
The recent chip crisis and other problems continue to negatively affect the smartphone industry. Experts believe that this decline will end in 2024. So what do you think about the falling shipment figures for smartphones? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
