A facilitating decision was made for passengers using taxis in Istanbul, where taxi debates have been ongoing for a long time. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Coordination Directorate (UKOME) approved the smart overhead lamp application.
With the application in question, an informative beacon will be added to the top of the taxis, indicating whether the taxi is empty or full. The new application will be implemented in 3 months.
What will be written on the smart beacon?
The Smart Beacon to be placed in taxis will include the following texts, including empty and full information:
- FULL
- NULL
- RZV (Reserved)
- SOS (Help)

The smart beacon to be added to the taxis will work together with the taximeter. As soon as the journey begins, the sign ‘FULL’ will appear on the sign. No outside intervention will be allowed on this sign until the end of the journey.
In addition to the smart beacon, the new application will also include a panic button for the protection of the drivers.
