Smart announced the name of the electric SUV model: Smart #1

Smart is preparing to open a brand new page for itself in the automotive world. The brand, which we know with the Fortwo and Forfour models, will soon introduce the fully electric SUV model. Details about the model, whose development process is still ongoing, have also begun to emerge.

The electric SUV was previewed last year with the concept work Concept #1. The brand did not want to make any changes in the production version, so it announced the name of the model as Smart #1. Stating that the hashtag in the name symbolizes the digital age, the authorities also believe that it will add a younger look to the brand.

We see the photos of the model, which will be sold in China and Europe, taken in the wind tunnel and on snowy roads. After the tests, the air friction coefficient of Smart #1 was announced as 0.29 Cd, which the brand was quite assertive about. Extremely rounded lines, hidden door handles and active flaps in the front air vent have a big part in this.

One of the most thought-provoking issues regarding the range of electric cars is extreme weather conditions. Confident in this regard, Smart states that the battery control system in the vehicle keeps the battery in optimum operating conditions even at -40 °C, and claims that the range is not affected much by cold weather conditions.

Smart #1 has a length of 4290 mm, a width of 1910 mm and a height of 1698 mm. The wheelbase is 2750mm, and the wheels have been pushed forward and back whenever possible to achieve the value. In this way, according to the brand’s claim, an interior volume that competes with upper segment cars has emerged. Let’s also mention that the cabin will not be a four-seater as in the concept, but a 5-seater.

Technical details are not yet clear. However, we do know that it will be based on the SEA platform developed by Geely. The platform in question supports battery capacities between 58 kWh and 100 kWh. Moreover, it can host two electric motors that offer up to 500 horsepower. At this point, it is thought that Smart #1 will offer around 260 horsepower and a range of more than 320 kilometers with rear-wheel drive.
