Google, which many of us use almost every day, has been placing advertising sites at the top of search results for years. You may have noticed that with every search you do, strange irrelevant sites occupy the very top and almost half of the first page. Sometimes, we can waste minutes on a site that is useless to us by not noticing these ads.
Google, which once saw that such sites advertised, made it difficult to detect these sites with a small change in 2019. The US technology giant, which received many complaints from users in this direction, finally decided to change this system.
“Sponsored” will be written instead of “Advertisement”
Ginny Marvin, Google’s official responsible for advertising, said in a statement on his Twitter account today that they changed the phrase “Advertisement” in the upper left part of the advertiser sites seen in the results of Google’s searches tab to “Sponsored”. Marvin also added that the blue color that was previously difficult to see on a black and white background will be replaced with green.
According to the news of Search Engine Land, Google officials, who tested this new advertising phrase with a limited number of users in the first quarter of 2022, said that “advertised sites are detected much more easily on both mobile and PC” in the feedback of users. However, many users on the Reddit forums stated that they can easily overlook this phrase while doing an important search.
Over the years, Google, which has made arrangements to make advertising sites more difficult to notice, is frequently criticized by its users. Do you think that writing “sponsored” instead of “advertisement” next to sites that advertise to Google will make it easier for you to notice these sites?
