Clean energy solutions provider Siemens Gamesa announced that it has started production of the first 115-metre-long B115 wind turbine blades. The blades, which started to be produced in Aalborg, Denmark, are planned to be used in the SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbine, which will have an output of 14 MW and a rotor diameter of 236 meters.

Tests will be held at the end of this year

Siemens Gamesa will manufacture the blades using IntegralBlade technology, which is made in one piece from fiberglass-reinforced epoxy resin without any glued joints. Wings produced with IntegralBlade technology are 3-4% lighter than glued wings. The company also plans to manufacture blades with RecyclableBlade technology to make the components of its turbines recyclable, using a different resin with a focus on recycling.

SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbine will have 43,500 m2 swept area apart from the 236 meter rotor diameter.
