Sid Meier’s Civilization series has hosted six main games and numerous spin-offs since it debuted in the early ’90s. And now developer Firaxis Games has heralded that the next Civilization game is in development. This will most likely be the seventh main game.
The announcement on Twitter is not accompanied by a trailer or even a game name. Therefore, it is unclear when the game will be officially introduced. For now, we only know that Civilization VI designer Ed Beach will be joining the new project as creative director.

Time for change at Firaxis
At the same time, there are some important changes happening inside Firaxis as well. It has been confirmed that Studio Head Steve Martin and XCOM game director Jake Solomon will be leaving the studio. Martin has been with Firaxis for 27 years over 32 game launches. His replacement is Heather Hazen. Hazen has been the Director of Operations at Firaxis since 2020 and has previously served at Epic Games (Fortnite) and PopCap (Plants vs. Zombies and Bejeweled).
Jake Solomon left Firaxis after 23 years in office. Following the XCOM and War of the Chosen projects, his latest game was Marvel’s Midnight Suns, a tactical game that seemed to miss publisher Take-Two’s sales targets.
