Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web (www), the architect of the internet revolution, described cryptocurrencies as “dangerous”.

The rise and adoption in the cryptocurrency market also reveals an ever-increasing user base. In these days when the trend towards cryptocurrencies is increasing regularly, the explanations of corporate names for the sector come with it. While many names approached positively, negative air started to blow from some names. One of these names, Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, used the definitions of “dangerous” and “gambling” for cryptocurrencies.

The Inventor of the Traditional Internet Takes a Negative Approach to Cryptocurrencies

Tim Berners-Lee, the founder of the World Wide Web (www), considered one of the revolutionaries of the traditional internet, has a negative approach to cryptocurrencies.

Discussing the future of the web, Berners-Lee stated that cryptocurrencies are speculative. In addition, Berners-Lee compared digital assets to dot-com products (internet stocks with no solid business behind them).

In an interview with CNBC, Berners-Lee said;

“This is just speculative. Frankly, this is really dangerous. Investing in certain things that are purely speculative is not what I want to spend my time on.”

Implying that speculative assets could turn into gambling, Berners-Lee did not take a downright negative approach to cryptocurrencies.

Berners-Lee stated that cryptocurrencies can be useful for remittances if they are converted into fiat currency as soon as they are received.
