The ship, which we shared with you in the past days, containing 4,000 luxury cars and caught fire off the coast of Portugal on the way from Germany to the USA, had been drifting in the Atlantic Ocean for 13 days.
Of course, none of the vehicles survived in this almost 2 week period. Fortunately, however, the 22 crew members on board were rescued by the Portuguese Air Force via a helicopter on 16 February.
The ship, which had been drifting for 13 days, sank
All of the 4,000 luxury vehicles in it belonged to the Volkswagen group. The fire on the ship had been successfully extinguished, but the ship was now too damaged to be repaired. After 13 days of drifting, the shipping ship sank near the Atlantic Ocean.
Porsche, one of the automakers with vehicles on board, stated that there were 1,100 cars on board, while Audi, Lamborghini and Volkswagen did not give an explanation about the number. Also in a statement today, Porsche announced that they have started new productions to make up for the cars lost on the ship.
