Elon Musk, one of the most active and spoken names in social media, came to the fore when he bought 9.2% of Twitter and offered to buy the rest. After that, Musk, who also made statements about social media platforms, added a new one to these statements.
Musk showed the ‘ideal’ policy of social media platforms in his own eyes in his post yesterday evening. Musk said that a social media platform’s policies are “good policies” if 10% of the extreme left or right are equally unhappy. Musk’s share was as follows:
Elon Musk’s share:
“The policies of a social media platform are the extreme 10% on the left and right. it is good if the population is equally unhappy.”
Actually, there are many conclusions we can draw from these words of Musk. One of them is that every segment is unhappy at the same rate, which means that these segments are constantly bickering with each other on the social media platform. This allows social media platforms to maintain their popularity and grow with those who want to be involved in the discussion.
On the other hand, this statement also offers a clue about freedom of speech. Since extremists often clash with each other with violent words, banning these words from platforms makes extremists on both sides unhappy. The remaining extremists, that is, 80% in total, quarrel within the framework of social media policies. In other words, freedom of speech is provided under certain limits.
