If the plan, which was announced to the public by the Seoul local government on November 3, is successful, the people of Seoul will be able to visit the virtual city hall to perform many activities such as not touring the museum and filing a complaint with the municipal government. Investment in the project, which is part of Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s 10-year plan, which aims to increase the city’s global power as well as contribute to socialization among the city’s residents, totals 3.9 billion won ($3.3 million). ) is expected to explode.

Seoul City’s metaverse as part of the investment, part of the New Digital Deal, which leverages artificial intelligence and digital tools to improve central infrastructure, healthcare and the economy to recover from South Korea’s post-COVID-19 pandemic economic crisis. The platform is planned to be put into use towards the end of 2022.

The project, which will be fully implemented in 2026, will include the Mayor’s virtual office in addition to the public services serving in various sectors. Within the scope of the project, which is planned to start in December, “Metaverse 120 Center” will be opened in 2023, targeting virtual public services.

However, there is a small snag in the project, which is aimed to increase convenience and accessibility in public service by eliminating barriers such as transportation. Not yet widely used as smartphones and computers; It is expected that many people will not be able to afford the equipment required for this project, as virtual reality glasses, which cost between $300 and $600, are relatively expensive.
