Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, who was on the agenda with his statement, “Whenever I say ‘flying car’, they try to make fun of us, but the world will talk about flying cars, artificial intelligence and hybrid rocket technologies.” made an important statement about the SCT hikes. Minister Varank stated that taxes are regulated according to needs.
Minister Varank, who met with the press at the TOGG stand, Turkey’s domestic automobile, within the scope of TEKNOFEST events, states that SCT and VAT should also be included, and that these taxes are determined in a way that will pave the way for the economic needs of the state and the sectors.
“Whether it’s VAT or SCT, when the needs are met . . . ”
“Was the SCT hike on electric vehicles strategic, was it to support domestic vehicles?” Answering the question, Minister Varank made the following statements at the TOGG stand:
The move there had a leg towards especially imported luxury cars. Unfortunately, there were those who tried to bring very luxurious cars to Turkey at more affordable prices, it was a move directed towards it. Of course, we design our tax practices both by considering the economic needs of the country and paving the way for the sectors. Of course, whether it is VAT or SCT, when the needs are met.
As you know, we made very serious discounts on VAT during the pandemic period. In this sense, our Ministry of Treasury and Finance neither wants to block the sector, nor does it want too many imported and luxury cars to be sold in Turkey. Of course, there are studies to revise these practices in the coming period in a way to achieve this balance.
