The SCT level in our country disturbs many citizens. Citizens are fed up with the excise duty rate, especially on automobiles. The increased SCT rate in new vehicles is unfortunately reflected in second-hand vehicles, and this turns into a vicious circle after a while.

Minister Varank touched on the increase in SCT that took place in the past months

According to the news of HaberTürk, Minister Varank, who visited the TOGG stand at TEKNOFEST, made statements about the price of the domestic car. He stated that the price of the car developed by TOGG is not yet certain, but it will be at a level that can compete with the vehicles in its class.

Minister Varank also mentioned the SCT increases for electric vehicles last month.

Varank, “The move there was aimed at imported luxury cars. There were those who tried to bring very luxurious cars to Turkey at more affordable prices. It was a move against him. We design our tax practices both according to the economic needs of the country and to pave the way for the sectors. Whether it is VAT or SCT, discounts are made when needed. The Ministry of Treasury and Finance neither wants to block the sector, nor does it want too many luxury and imported cars to be sold in Turkey. Efforts are being made for the upcoming period to achieve this balance,” he said.

As the engine power increased, the SCTs increased sharply. The SCT rate for electric cars with an engine power not exceeding 85 kWh is from 3 percent to 10 percent, for electric cars with an engine power between 85 kWh and 120 kWh, the SCT rate is reduced from 7 percent to 25 percent, and finally, the engine power is 120 kWh. The excise duty rate of electric cars exceeding the previous year was increased from 15 percent to 60 percent.
