Scientists Developed Drought Resistant Plant

Against the drought that threatens the future of the world, scientists have succeeded in producing a plant that is more resistant to arid conditions. Thus, the amount of water required for plant cultivation in the future can also be reduced.

Proteins in plants have many other uses apart from being one of the most basic blocks of life on earth. An ordinary plant cell uses 20 billion protein molecules. Thus, the cell becomes more stable and metabolic activities of the cell can be performed.

Researchers from the University of Heidelberg conducted a study that will extend the life of plant proteins. Scientists who discovered an important protein called N-terminal acetylation in this study also stated that this protein is used as a control mechanism in the growth of plants.

An important role in combating droughts

Scientists state that the protein known as HYPK (Huntingtin Yeast Interactor Protein K) is important, and that this structure also increases the production of N-terminal acetylaton. Although HYPK has many benefits, the most prominent benefit was that it made it possible for plants to adapt to different conditions.

In studies on genetically engineered plants, the Heidelberg team found that if a plant is deficient in the HYPK protein, N-terminal acetylatone is also not formed. At the same time, the drought resistance of plants increased. The researchers said their next goal is to uncover the source of this drought resistance.

As it is known, the risk of drought has been frequently mentioned in recent years. For this reason, although awareness-raising activities are being carried out for water conservation, these studies alone may not be sufficient. That’s why these studies on plants are critical.
