Scientists develop a new compound to fight the toughest types of cancer

Scientists have made a very important discovery in the research of cancer treatments. Scientists who developed a compound that can kill some difficult-to-treat cancers have published their findings in Nature Science. The new compound targets the vulnerability that has not been discovered by researchers before.

ERX- Found The new compound, named 11, is most effective against breast and ovarian cancer

According to Ratna Vadlamudi, study leader and professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the UT Health Center in San Antonio, scientists have identified a critical vulnerability in multiple cancers. and confirmed the findings in multiple cancer cell types and animal models. The professor added that the compound has been found to work on cell line and xenograft, showing that it targets a key vulnerability in cancer cells.

Vadlamudi and colleagues discovered a compound called ERX-11 in 2017 while working at the Ratna Vadlamudi Laboratory at the Texas Health Center in San Antonio. The compound named ERX-11, which was found as a result of the studies, shows the most effect in ovarian and breast cancers.

ERX-11 compound targets the estrogen receptor (ER) which is the cause behind most breast cancers. Once the compound was identified, the scientists scanned a screen of chemical analogs of ERX-11 and observed that another compound, ERX-41, was effective at killing ER-positive cancers in petri dishes. The compound was also found to succeed in eliminating triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs).

Extending the study, the scientists underlined that ERX-41 also showed activity against many human tumors using mouse models. The compound was learned to effectively shrink tumors in mouse models without causing animal toxicity or affecting normal mammary cells.

In addition, it proved that ERX-41 works against other types of cancer with high endoplasmic reticulum stress. These include cancers that do not have many effective treatments for themselves, such as ovarian cancers, glioblastoma, and pancreatic cancers.
