Space researchers continue to carefully study the movements of the Solar system. Because no matter how far it may seem, the movements on the planets in the system are of interest to the Earth as well. Finally, researchers noticed an alarming activity on Neptune.
Sudden temperature rises on Neptune cause concern
Researchers from around the world working on the solar system, European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope, NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope, Gemini South and Northern telescopes, instruments such as the Subaru Telescope and Keck Telescope have been closely examining what is happening on the planets for a long time.
However, the recent events on Neptune both surprised and alarmed researchers. Considering the Neptune movements of the last 17 years, scientists stated that there are unexplained fluctuations on the planet. Co-author Glenn Orton, senior research scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, commented on the matter.
Our data covers less than half of a Neptune season, so no one expected to see big and rapid changes.
According to observations made on Neptune since 2003, it was already known that the average temperature of the planet dropped by 8 degrees Celsius. However, the rapid rise in temperatures of 11 degrees Celsius around the south pole of the planet cannot be explained by scientists.
In fact, the planet’s south pole is known to occasionally host similar areas of atmospheric turbulence. But researchers are baffled by the rapid rise in temperature amid general global cooling. Scientists have put forward some theories about the event.
Some researchers have stated that the fluctuation experienced may be due to some kind of effect from the sun or an unknown chemical effect on the planet’s atmosphere. But all this is a question mark for now. Experts are worried about the possibility that this fluctuation may somehow be experienced on Earth.
