Cyber fraud has unfortunately become one of the crimes that we encounter frequently on the internet today. The methods used by some scammers can be easily noticed at first, while others can be so detailed that many people do not notice.

Fake e-Government fraud, which has been frequently encountered on social media in the past years, is also among the methods that are hardly noticed. Moreover, these fake e-Government sites have recently started to be among the methods of fraudsters.

They even advertise on Instagram

It is stated in the advertisements that you may come across while surfing on Instagram that Credit Card Fee Refund payments have started. When you click on the link to apply, the system automatically redirects you to a fake e-Government site.

The site asks you to fill out the form to find out the dues status. After you enter your card information with your TR ID number, the system uses this information to withdraw from your card and you are defrauded, with the warning “Contacting the bank”.

Of course, careful users noticed that the URL in the ad does not belong to e-Government. However, on some phones, this URL can easily go unnoticed. Also, let’s point out that there is no such system on e-Government for credit card fee refunds and you should contact your bank for the fee transaction.

When we check the domain information of the fake e-Government site in the example, we find that the site was opened yesterday, on March 6, 2023, and that the address used in the registration information is registered in the name of a telecommunications company in Toronto, Canada. This shows us that the scammers bought this username from a foreign company.

In order not to fall into the network of such fraudsters, checking the URLs of the sites where you enter your card information and personal information and doing a short research on the internet before making the transactions will significantly reduce the risks.
