After the 3DXPoint memory technology, which was developed to revolutionize the Micron partnership, it started commercial life under the name Intel Optane. However, when expectations were not met, this revolutionary innovation became history.
Intel Optane is ending
Intel Optane, which is planned to be used as both storage and memory, has managed to reach the fourth generation. However, since it could not find a response in the market, it started to write losses all the time. The Optane division, which lost $559 million in the second quarter, is closing completely.
Shock drop in Intel: The company’s revenues decreased by 22 percent
Especially the development of PCIe 5.0 and later technologies to exceed 10GB / s has reduced the interest in Optane memory. In order to use resources efficiently, Intel also decided to close the division.
The facilities where 3DXPoint technology was developed were transferred to Micron in recent years. However, since Micron also focuses on traditional connection technologies, it was not possible to see this in their products.
